When to decide to go to a Chiropractor…

When to decide to go to a Chiropractor…

How have you and life treated your body?

Depending on how life has treated you all the way from Birth, you might need to see a Chiropractor now!

Think about the force of twisting and pulling that can be put on a babies neck during birth. Think about how many times you fell off your bike as a child. Think about how many times you woke up in a weird position and your neck or back or both were sore/stiff. Think about how you sit at your desk at work. Think about how your body is positioned as you watch TV at night. Those plus stress can all cause issues in your body.

Do you listen to your body?

Our body communicates with us by indicating pain, and if we listen we can usually pretty easily adjust to make it go away. At HealthQuest we look to find what the root cause of your pain is and perform an adjustment to get rid of that root cause. Some pain can take quite awhile to release, while others can feel relief quickly. It all depends on how long you wait to hear that pain and get it checked out. The sooner it is dealt with the better the chances are it can be removed permanently. If you mask the pain by taking medicine, you are masking the messages your body is trying to tell you.

At HealthQuest, every patient who comes in our door for the first time has a one-on-one consultation with our Doctor for 30 minutes. The Doctor asks questions and really listens to each patient to find out what is bothering them and how long it has been an issue. They also work to find out what the patient’s health goals are and tries to help them achieve those goals. Our goal is to use holistic methods with small but meaningful improvements in daily lifestyle to help our patients be the best version of themselves.

Safety and Sanitizing

Safety and Sanitizing

We are doing our part to keep our offices clean and sanitized. Chiropractic care is essential for many to function and we are working hard to keep our offices open and available in the safest way possible.

Measuring Pain-How our Bodies communicate with us.

Measuring Pain-How our Bodies communicate with us.

Before our Chiropractors can begin your treatment and at each of your assessment exams your pain must be assessed. Assessing pain is subjective because there is no exact tool to measure the amount of pain a patient is experiencing.

During our New Patient Exam our Doctors spend 30 Minutes with you, asking questions, running tests, observing your posture, gait, facial expression of discomfort and involuntary verbalizations. We use a scale of 0 to 10 that is referred back to at follow up exams to check progress. We want to make sure your condition(s) is responding to treatment over time. We also utilize x-rays to show movement of the neck and spine to compare progress.

Pain Measurement and its effect on daily activities are crucial to the creation of our treatment plans. They help us to determine the severity of the injury or condition as well as assess the treatment progress. If an adjustment needs to be made to a treatment of a condition it will be shown during the progress exams if not before. We always want to work toward progress of healing and adjust as needed during treatment.

Pain is a symptom of a condition your body is going through. Pain like many other symptoms can be masked or hidden by medication. Be careful not to hide your symptoms and ignore them. Pain is a great way for the body to communicate needing help.

HealthQuest Decompression Table

HealthQuest Decompression Table

Introducing our NEWEST addition to our HealthQuest of Fields Ertel Office …..

TRITON 6E TRACTION TABLE ELECTRONIC

Patients who suffer from the chronic pain associated with bulging, degenerating, or herniated discs may benefit from treatment using a spinal decompression table. This type of pain, which can manifest as back or neck pain itself as well as associated pain in the arms and legs, may have already been treated by traditional traction methods or even by spinal surgery to limited improvement. In modern medicine, spinal distraction has been utilized as a treatment option to help relieve peripheral radiation/sciatica and pain associated with various spine injuries and pathologies.

  • One of the most advanced electric traction tables, powered by modern actuators, assist in friction-free movement of head, pelvic, chest and leg sections
  • 6-section treatment table to provide maximum patient comfort in prone and supine positions for manual and traction therapy
  • Pelvic tilt section can be adjusted from 0° to 20° to provide flexion of lumbar spine and to help address pelvic asymmetry
  • Head piece can be repositioned from -30° to +40° to allow easy access to thoracic and cervical spine
  • Atmospheric LED light system in table frame, with cycling or fxed modes
  • Heated cushions provide greater patient comfort

Be sure to ask you HealthQuest Doctor if this is the right treatment option to further your progress.

Proper Walking Techniques

Proper Walking Techniques

Walking is such a great form of exercise for people of all ages. Walking is low impact and can provide the most health and longevity benefits. Over 80 million Americans consider themselves walkers. We see people walking day and night – indoors at malls, at parks and around our neighborhoods. Walking is second nature to us yet we have come to forget how to walk properly. There are simple walking techniques that we can use to keep our body balanced and in good form.

ACA spokesperson Karen Erickson, DC, FACC, was featured in a Shape magazine article on the best ways to improve posture, nix pain and boost confidence when walking. According to Dr. Erickson, “Most people don’t walk with proper alignment. From all of the sitting that we do during the day, our hip flexors are tight so we walk with our hips flexed, our back arched and our bum behind us.”

Be mindful of your form when walking. A great stride has good posture and purposeful movements. Follow the 7 points of proper walking techniques to get the most of your walks and to avoid imbalances that can cause misalignments and joint pain.

Proper Walking Techniques

  • Hold your head high
  • Look forward – not at the ground or your phone
  • Chin should be parallel to the ground
  • Move shoulders naturally – hands free from devices
  • Swing arms freely with your elbows slightly bent
  • Gently tighten your stomach muscles
  • Wear appropriate walking shoes & walk by rolling your foot from heel to toe

Patients Love What We Do!

I have gone to a Chiropractor for many years, but felt he wasn’t helping me anymore. I was suffering from daily headaches, neck and back pain and totally lacking in energy. It was time for a change. I never knew how bad I was feeling until I started feeling better! After a month of treatment I was feeling so much better I decided to go through the 8 weeks to Wellness. I am just finishing up week 6 and feel great! I wish I had found these guys a long time ago! Everyone is so nice here and treat you like family. I am enjoying getting my health on!!!

If I could give more stars I would. Dr. Prewitt and his whole staff is amazing. I went in 8 weeks ago thinking I was not going to be able to be helped and only surgery would fix me. Happily I was wrong. I went from being debilitated to back in the gym and relatively pain free in less than 8 weeks. I can’t say enough good things about his program. If you have to go to physical therapy, this is the place to go.

The number of people experiencing some sort of chronic pain every day of their lives is alarming. In fact, many Americans have resigned themselves to pain because they simply feel it’s a normal condition. According to a recent survey by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), close to one in two Americans say pain is part of life, while another 41% believe pain is a standard part of the aging process. Check out some more statistics on how pain affects so many people today:

  • Experts estimate that over 80% of the population experience back pain in their lives.
  • Every 10 seconds, someone in the U.S. goes to the emergency room complaining of head pain and approximately 1.2 million visits are for acute migraine attacks.
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that over 3% of employed 18-64 year olds report having carpal tunnel syndrome in the past 12 months.
  • CDC reports that approximately 30% of adults experience some type of joint pain during preceding 30 days.

Routine Chiropractic Care Can Turn This Around

These numbers reveal a true crisis. Society has become reactive rather that proactive in maintaining good health. Maintaining good health means getting checked before a problem surfaces. Routine chiropractic checks should be the same as we routinely see a dentist for good dental health. See a chiropractor to keep the nervous system free from subluxations, to maintain good structure and to avoid pain and so many chronic conditions that can be avoided.

Now here is an interesting concept: Only 9% of the entire nervous system is set up for feeling pain. So, just think of possible things that can be corrected before you ever get the symptom of pain.  Be proactive and visit your chiropractor for the path of optimal wellness. Your overall health will benefit!

“Chiropractic embraces the science of life, the knowledge of how organisms act in health and disease and also the art of adjusting the neuroskeleton.” – Daniel D. Palmer

Stretch Every Day And Avoid Low Back Pain

Stretch Every Day And Avoid Low Back Pain

Call to Request an Appointment

Low back pain is a common complaint among so many people today. For many, it is ‘normal’ to have low back pain on a daily basis – chronic low back pain. Chronic pain is often defined as pain lasting more than 12 weeks. A National Institute of Health Statistics survey indicates that at 27%, low back pain is the most common form of chronic pain. In fact, the American Chiropractic Association reports that 31 MILLION Americans experience low back pain at any given time. It is also found that back pain is the single leading cause of disability in Americans under 45 year old.

Low back pain can range from a dull constant ache to a sudden sharp pain. If it is left untreated, low back pain can significantly change quality of life and can lead to poor overall health and depression. Prevention is key and it is recommended to keep your body moving and to stretch often to prevent low back pain. Stretching keeps muscles ‘loose’ and strong. A great way to prepare for your day is with three simple stretches in the morning. Exercises to reduce low back pain are not complicated and can be done at home without any special equipment.

SUPER SIMPLE STRETCHES

  • Low back stretch:

Bring both knees to your chest by first raising one knee and holding it with both hands, then raising the other to join it. Gently pull both knees toward your chest and breathe. Hold for 20 seconds.

  • Pelvic tilt:

Lie on your back with your knees bent. Tighten your ab muscles so that the small of your back presses flat against the bed or floor. Hold for five seconds, then relax. Repeat three times.

  • Glute stretch:

Lying on your back with knees bent, cross left leg over your right. Gently pull your right knee toward your chest, so you feel a stretch in your left glute. Hold for 20 seconds; repeat on the other side.

STRETCH FOR LONG-TERM HEALTH

These exercises are super simple and can be done in little time. In addition to stretching, be aware of posture during all activities. Regular chiropractic check-ups can prevent injury and keep you and your family functioning in top form. Get your spine aligned for your nervous system to work at 100% potential and to be free from chronic pain.

Healthy Living Habits

The start of a new season brings awareness of the things that you may like to do in the coming months. Along with the goals you set and plans you make this fall, take time for yourself and make HEALTH part of your every day for the upcoming months. We are faced with so many demands of our time and attention that it becomes vital to pause. Consider incorporating lifestyle habits that will allow you to reap rewards in the long term. Try adding these few tips into your days and your health will thank you!

Start With Breakfast
Breakfast is an easy meal to skip, however, doing so can be the biggest mistake of the day! Your energy level will suffer and you’ll eat more during the day to compensate for your hunger. The National Weight Control Registry reports that 4000 participants who maintained at least a 30 pound weight loss for about 5 1/2 years, almost ALL said that they ate breakfast daily. The “breakfast of champions” has complex carbs, lean proteins & healthy fats.  A terrific option for a healthy breakfast on the go is a shake or smoothie with yogurt, leafy greens, fruits, and hemp seeds.

Do Something About The Aches
It is found that four in five people suffer from back pain. It may actually begin to seem “normal” to deal with chronic pain on a daily basis. Back pain, headaches, carpal tunnel, knee pain, any chronic pain can affect EVERYTHING in our lives. See your chiropractor for natural treatments to help your body heal and all aspects of your life will improve.

Say No
It is key to understand that in reality, you can’t have it all. Something has to give. There is just too much to do to have it all. Stop saying “yes” to everything.  Admit that every “yes” means a “no” to something else. Saying “yes” to too many things will destroy your health and lead to failure. Someone or something will pay the price later, always. Sometimes less is more!

Make Health a Priority
You’ve probably heard the adage, “If you have your health, then you have it all.” Our bodies should be routinely “maintained and tuned up” just as we maintain our vehicles to keep things running properly and getting the best performance. Fuel and maintain your body with more sanctity. Make smart food choices and make time for exercise and quality sleep.

Breathe
Try a simple technique to release stress and anxiety. When feeling uneasy about a tricky situation or after a tough day, a simple technique is to BREATHE DEEP. Push out your belly and breathe through your nose until your lungs are filled. This super stress buster can be done anytime and anywhere and evokes your body’s natural relaxation response and changes your physical and mental state. Your heart beats slower, muscles relax, blood pressure decreases, and levels of nitric oxide increase. Your brain is clearer and this simple trick takes almost no time to work. Share this health tip with family and friends of all ages for the next time they feel stressed. The mantra is BREATHE!
